Milan Konečný, born on December 15, 1948, in Vsetín, is a prominent Czech cartographer and university professor associated with the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University in Brno. He was a pioneer in teaching Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Czechoslovakia during the late 1970s. Konečný has actively organized international scientific conferences and is a member of various international professional societies. He has received honorary awards from around the world and served as the president of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) from 2003 to 2007.
