Miller Puckette is a prominent software developer known for creating the programs Max and Pure Data. He developed Max at IRCAM in the early 1980s, initially intended for MIDI data processing, which later expanded significantly. David Zicarelli took over programming tasks from Puckette. After leaving IRCAM, he began developing Pure Data, an open-source equivalent, in 1996. Currently, Puckette serves as the Associate Director for the Music Department at the Center for Research in Computing and the Arts (CRCA) at the University of California, San Diego. He received the SEAMUS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
