He served as a state and federal deputy across various terms from 1955 to 1998, primarily affiliated with the PTN, PTB, MDB, and PMDB. Reis was instrumental in state politics, supporting the election of Israel Pinheiro as governor. He also held key positions such as Secretary of State for Metropolitan Affairs and Vice-President of Copasa. Besides his political career, he was a member of the Academia Mineira de Letras and wrote the municipal anthem for Pouso Alegre.
