Minoru Saito is a Japanese solo sailor born on January 7, 1934, in Asakusa, Tokyo. He is renowned for being the oldest person to complete a solo circumnavigation of the globe non-stop at the age of 71. Initially a mountaineer, he began yachting in 1973 and attempted to sail around the world seven times, succeeding four times. His successful fourth voyage from 2004 to 2005 lasted 230 days, covering 50,000 kilometers. He departed Japan on October 16, 2004, and returned on June 6, 2005.
