Miroslava Vavrinec, commonly known as Mirka, is a former Slovak tennis player and the wife of tennis star Roger Federer. Born on April 1, 1978, she retired from professional tennis in 2002 due to a foot injury at the young age of 24. Originally from Slovakia, Mirka immigrated to Switzerland with her family at the age of two. Her parents are involved in the jewelry business and reside in Chaffhausen. Mirka was inspired to play tennis after meeting Martina Navratilova at a tournament in Germany, who later arranged her first tennis lesson.
