Mirza Aslam Beg (born August 2, 1931) is a retired four-star general of the Pakistan Army who served as Chief of Army Staff from 1988 until his retirement in 1991. He assumed command following the death of General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq in a plane crash. His tenure saw the election of Benazir Bhutto as Prime Minister and marked a return to democracy in Pakistan. Beg faced controversies regarding alleged election manipulation and funding of opposition parties. After retirement, he briefly served as a professor and has written columns on military affairs.
