He was previously affiliated with Kasamatsu Racecourse until February 2007, followed by stints at Miho Training Center and KIKU-Kawa Masatatsu Stable until January 2009. His racing colors while at Kasamatsu were purple, with a white diagonal stripe and yellow sleeves. He hails from Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture. His younger brother is the JRA jockey Katsumi Andō, and his son, Yōichi Andō, is a jockey at Ohi Racecourse.
