Mitsuru Maeda is a Japanese mammalogist born on January 12, 1930, in Hokkaido. He graduated from Hokkaido Normal School and later earned a Ph.D. in agriculture from Hokkaido University in 1988. Maeda has held several key positions, including director of wildlife research at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's forestry experiment stations. He contributed to the book on rodent species in Hokkaido and has led international research projects in Indonesia and China post-retirement. He is currently the representative of the 'Teine Mountain and Hitsukawa River Editorial Office'.
