Willard Mitt Romney, born on March 12, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, is an American businessman, politician, and former governor of Massachusetts. Appointed President and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee in 1999 following a corruption scandal, he oversaw the successful planning of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Romney was a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and was formally selected as the nominee for the 2012 election, where he lost to Democrat Barack Obama. He is considered a moderate within the Republican Party and is the first Mormon presidential candidate.
