Mohamed Afrah Qanyare (1941 - 2019) was a Somali politician and warlord based in the Dhiniile district of South Mogadishu. He ran for the presidency in the first post-civil war elections on October 10, 2004, finishing third. Following this, he served as the Minister of Security in the government of Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi until 2006, when he was dismissed for ignoring calls to cease hostilities with the Islamic Courts Union. Qanyare remained active in Somali politics, being re-elected to the first federal parliament after the transitional period and resigning from his seat in 2013.
