Mohamed Elmasry is a Canadian professor and Imam, prominent in the Canadian Muslim community, born on December 24, 1943, in Cairo, Egypt. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Cairo University in 1965 before moving to Canada, where he obtained a Master's and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa. With over four decades in integrated circuit design, he founded the VLSI Microchip research group at the University of Waterloo. A regular contributor to The Globe and Mail, he speaks on Muslim issues and has authored over 500 papers and 16 books.
