Mohamed Makiya was an Iraqi architect and author born in Baghdad in 1914. He studied architecture at the University of Liverpool, earning his bachelor's in 1941, and obtained a Ph.D. in 1946 from King's College, Cambridge. He founded the first architecture department in Iraq at the University of Baghdad and created his own architectural consultancy firm. Makiya is known for his designs that incorporate Islamic art and Arabic calligraphy, aiming to blend traditional elements with contemporary architecture. He was also an honorary member of several architectural organizations.
