General Sher Mohammad Karimi is an Afghan military leader born on November 11, 1945, in Khost Province. He served as Chief of Army Staff and was involved in the Afghan government during the communist regime. After being arrested post-1978 Saur Revolution, he was exiled to Pakistan. He returned to military duties in 2010, having previously worked in operations for Afghanistan's Ministry of Defense. Karimi is unique among Afghan officers for not receiving military training in the Soviet Union, emphasizing his distinct background.
