Born in Mashhad on May 9, he was involved with the Shahnameh Foundation for several years and published works on contemporary poets such as Nima Yushij and Monoshar Atashi. Mokhtari was abducted and murdered in connection to a series of political assassinations in Iran on December 9, making his death part of a notorious wave of targeted killings of intellectuals.
