Mohammad-Reza Aref, born on December 19, 1951, is an Iranian reformist engineer, academic, and politician who has served as the First Vice President since 2024 under President Masoud Bazghisian. Aref was the leader of the Reformist Hope Coalition in the Iranian parliament, representing Tehran. He has held significant positions, including First Vice President from 2001 to 2005 during Mohammad Khatami's presidency and Minister of Communications and Technology. Aref is also a professor of electrical engineering at Tehran University and Sharif University of Technology. He withdrew from the 2013 presidential election to support the reformist camp.
