Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani (August 25, 1931 – October 21, 2014) was an Iranian cleric and politician. He served as the Chairman of the Assembly of Experts from March 8, 2011, until his death. A prominent student of Ruhollah Khomeini, he held the position of Secretary General of the Society of Fighting Clergy. Mahdavi Kani was an opposition cleric before the 1979 Islamic Revolution and later became one of the five clerics who formed the core of the Revolutionary Council. He also served as Iran’s Minister of Interior and interim Prime Minister after the assassination of Rajai and Bahonar.
