Mohammad Shafi Uri, popularly known as Babbar Sher, is a notable former politician in Jammu and Kashmir. He served as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, first elected in 1972. Shafi held various ministerial positions, including Minister of State for Education and Cabinet Minister for Information and Education. He played a key role in introducing the Panchayati Raj system in the region and served in the Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2015. He was reelected to the Legislative Assembly in 2014.
