Mohammed Badie (born August 7, 1943) is the eighth General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, elected on January 16, 2010. He succeeded Mehdi Akef. Badie was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor following a military trial in connection with the 1965 organization led by Sayyid Qutb, and faced additional military trials under President Hosni Mubarak. Post the 2013 military coup, he was among the first arrested on charges of 'murder and incitement to violence', which he denied, advocating for peaceful protests instead.
