Mohammed Dib Zaitoun is a Syrian military officer who has been the head of the National Security Bureau of the Ba'ath Party since July 9, 2019. He previously served as the head of political security and general intelligence in Syria. Born in the Qalamoun area and belonging to the Sunni sect, Zaitoun is a significant figure in Syria's crisis management cell formed in 2011. He survived an assassination attempt during the 2012 Syrian National Security Building bombing and played a key role in various ceasefires throughout the Syrian civil war, notably in Homs.
