Major Mohit Sharma was an Indian Army officer posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime military honor. He served in the elite 1 Para SF and was killed in action on March 21, 2009, while leading Bravo Assault Team in Kupwara district. During a combat against terrorists on March 29, 2009, he killed four insurgents and rescued two colleagues; however, he sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the process. He is remembered for his bravery and sacrifice, and a metro station in Delhi has been named after him.
