Mordecai Richler (January 27, 1931 – July 3, 2001) was a Canadian writer known for his novels, including "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz" (1959) and "Barney's Version" (1997). He also wrote children's fiction series, notably "Jacob Two-Two". Richler's works often explored themes surrounding the Jewish community in Canada, Canadian nationalism, and Quebec nationalism. His writings generated significant debate, particularly the essay collection "Oh, Canada! Oh, Quebec!" (1992) concerning nationalism and anti-Semitism. He faced personal and social challenges in a complex family environment and wrote extensively on Montreal life.
