Mother Irini, also known as St. Irini, was a prominent Coptic saint and abbess born on February 9, 1936, in Girga, Egypt, and passed away on October 31, 2006, in Cairo. Known as the Mother of the modern Coptic monasticism, she served as the head of the Monastery of Saint Philopateer Mercurius in Old Cairo. She was deeply influential among Copts and Christians in Egypt, credited with many miracles during her life and after her death. She was dedicated as the abbess on October 15, 1962, and has several of her writings translated into English.
