Mrinal Kumar Das Gupta was an Indian astronomer known for his impactful contributions to radio astronomy. He obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc in Physics from Dhaka University and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester. Notably, he collaborated with prominent scientists to develop the first intensity interferometers at radio wavelengths in the early 1950s. His work involved measuring the angular structures of radio sources such as Cygnus A and Cassiopeia A. In recognition of his achievements, he was elected as a Fellow of various scientific academies. He passed away in Kolkata in 2005.
