Muṣṭafā Māhir (1936-2021) was an Egyptian translator born in Cairo's Shubra district. He taught French in secondary schools and initially translated from French, notably the play 'Iphigenia' by Racine. In 1961, he shifted focus to German translation and earned a doctorate in Linguistics in 1962. He founded the German language department at Al-Alsun School and led it until 1987. His conservative translations, influenced by Eastern cultural norms, occasionally drew criticism, particularly for censoring explicit content. He received the Ain Shams University Literature Award in 1996 and dedicated over 60 years to translation and teaching.
