Gökçay participated in music councils in the presence of Atatürk and worked with Istanbul and Ankara Radios. She performed in various venues and recorded music on gramophone records. Sparked by her relative, Kanunî İhsan Raif Hanım, she began her stage career at the age of 15. Gökçay also acted in the film 'Bir Kavuk Devrildi' in 1939.
