Muhammad Mahdi al-Salih is a former Iraqi politician who served as Minister of Trade from 1987 until the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He studied at Baghdad University and obtained a bachelor's degree before earning a master's degree and a PhD from the University of Manchester. He held various roles in the Iraqi government, including economic advisor to the president. After being arrested by U.S. forces in 2003, he was released in 2012 due to lack of evidence. He currently lives in Jordan, where he is an assistant professor at the University of Jordan.
