Mukaghali Makatayev was a Kazakh and Soviet poet, writer, and translator born on February 9, 1931, in the village of Karasaz in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. He began publishing his poetry in 1948 and became known for his poem 'Appassionata.' Makatayev was integral to Kazakh literature, translating works by Shakespeare, Whitman, and Dante into Kazakh. He was a member of the Kazakhstan Writers' Union and continued his studies in Moscow. After his death on March 27, 1976, he received the international award from the Kazakh government in 1999 for his poetry collection 'Amanat.'
