Mullah Krekar, born Najmuddin Faraj Ahmad in 1956 in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, is a Kurdish Islamic preacher who fled Saddam Hussein's regime in the early 1980s. He has a master's degree in Hadith Sciences and became involved in Kurdish Islamic movements after the Halabja chemical attack. Krekar emigrated to Norway in 1992, became known for his writings in Arabic, including a newspaper, and later returned to Iraqi Kurdistan for mosque building and political endeavors. He has faced legal challenges in Norway, including allegations of terrorism, but was acquitted. Krekar has published poetry reflecting on Kurdish suffering.
