Chihiro Murata, born on October 26, 1955, is a Japanese musicologist and professor at Tokyo University of the Arts. He graduated from the University of Tokyo with a degree in aesthetics and completed his master's degree at the National University of Music. Murata has held various academic positions, including at Hirosaki University and Hokkaido University of Education, before becoming a professor at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006. His research focuses on German lieder from the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly Franz Schubert and Johann Friedrich Reichardt, as well as music social history and modern Japanese music education.
