Muriel Dowding, Baroness Dowding (née Albino; 1908-1993) was an English humanitarian and animal rights activist renowned for advocating anti-vivisection, vegetarianism, and animal welfare. She was a pioneer of the cruelty-free movement and coined the term 'cruelty-free.' Dowding founded the charity Beauty Without Cruelty in 1959 and established Beauty Without Cruelty Cosmetics in 1963, focusing on synthetic alternatives to fur and cruelty-free cosmetics. As a prominent figure in animal rights, she served as president of the National Anti-Vivisection Society and vice-president of the RSPCA, and co-founded the IAAPEA in 1969.
