Mustafa Tlass was a Syrian Ba'athist politician and military officer who served as Minister of Defense and Deputy Commander of the Syrian Armed Forces from 1972 until 2004. He was considered a close associate of President Hafez al-Assad and was a prominent figure in the so-called old guard. Tlass played a significant role during the October War of 1973, particularly in the Quneitra front. Born on May 11, 1932, he passed away on June 27, 2017.
