He graduated from Tokyo Polytechnic University in 1938 and worked at Olympus Corporation, where he created the Esophagogastroduodenoscope in 1950. His achievements were highlighted in the NHK documentary "Project X: Challengers: The Development of a Gastro-camera Wholly Made in Japan." Sugiura passed away on August 26, 1986, at the age of 68, leaving a significant mark in the field of medical technology.
