He earned his doctorate in art studies in 1995 and became a professor in 2000. Stankevych was a corresponding member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine from 2002, chaired the Union of Critics and Art Historians since 1999, and was a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine since 1988. He passed away on March 16, 2017.
