Dr. N. M. Perera, born Nanayakkarapathirage Martin Perera on June 6, 1904, was a prominent Sri Lankan politician and a leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP), known for its Trotskyist beliefs. He made history as the first Trotskyist to hold a cabinet minister position, serving two terms as Minister of Finance and as Leader of the Opposition. Additionally, he held the office of Mayor of Colombo. Perera was influential in Sri Lankan politics until his passing on August 14, 1979.
