N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar was an influential Indian industrialist and an associate of MG Ramachandran. He founded Mohan Breweries and Distilleries, which was the first liquor manufacturer after the state lifted the liquor ban. In 1985, he established Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Tamil Nadu's first privately owned medical institution, which later became Sri Ramachandra University. In 1994, he started a Tamil television channel named GEC, which was subsequently acquired by Star India and renamed Star Vijay.
