Najah al-Attar is a Syrian politician born on January 10, 1933, in Damascus. Since March 23, 2006, she has served as Vice President of Syria, becoming the first Arab woman to hold this position. She obtained a degree in Arts and Humanities in 1954 and a Ph.D. in 1958 from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Her political career is notable for her groundbreaking achievements in a predominantly male-dominated field.
