He has served as a Member of Parliament for the Nalgonda constituency and was an MLA from Kodad (1999-2009) and Huzurnagar (2009-2019). He was president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee from February 2015 to June 2021 and held the position of Minister of Housing, overseeing weaker section housing programs in N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's ministry.
