He served as the Minister of Law, Justice, Constituent Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs, and Peace and Reconstruction starting on February 25, 2014, during the Sushil Koirala administration. Acharya was also elected as a representative in the 2nd Nepalese Constituent Assembly, securing his position by winning the Kathmandu–5 seat in the 2013 elections.
