Nawal El Saadawi (October 27, 1931 – March 21, 2021) was an Egyptian physician, psychiatrist, and writer known for her advocacy of human rights, particularly women's rights. She authored numerous books on women in Islam and was prominent in fighting against both male and female circumcision. El Saadawi founded the Arab Women's Solidarity Association in 1982 and contributed to the establishment of the Arab Organization for Human Rights. She received various accolades, including the North-South Prize in 2004 and the Inana International Prize in 2005. She held various positions in health and literary organizations.
