After completing his medical education at Atatürk University, he specialized in internal medicine, endocrinology, and metabolic diseases at a university hospital in Ankara. He became a professor and chairman at Atatürk University, served as Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and has been a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly representing Adana since the 2007 elections. He speaks English and is married with three children.
