Necil Kazım Akses was a prominent Turkish composer and conductor, born in May 1908 in Istanbul and passed away on February 16, 1999, in Ankara. He was known for his affiliation with the group 'Five Turkish', contributing significantly to Turkish classical music. Akses was a pioneer in Turkish symphonic music and founded the 'Çagdaş' movement. Among his important works are the Fifth Symphony, 'Ballad', and various concertos. He played a significant role in establishing the Ankara Conservatory and served as its director in 1948. He was awarded the title of 'State Artist' in 1971.
