Ned Shank was an American essayist and historic preservationist, known for his children's book 'The Sanyasin's First Day.' Born on February 19, 1956, in Oakland, California, he was a sixth-generation Bay Area native who grew up in Ames, Iowa. Shank co-founded the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow with his wife, Crescent Dragonwagon. He contributed to historical research for the renovation of the Old State House in Little Rock. He received accolades posthumously, including the Ned Shank Award for Excellence in Publication from the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas.
