Negasso Gidada was the first president of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, serving from 1995 to 2001. Before his presidency, he was involved in politics as the president of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) from 1987 to 1994. After stepping down from his position in the EPRDF, he participated in national elections in 1997, later serving as a member of the House of Peoples' Representatives. He holds a doctorate in history from a German university and has worked as a history lecturer at Addis Ababa University.
