Neil J. Howard is an American Thoroughbred horse racing trainer born on February 23, 1949. He began his career in 1969 and spent seven years working with Hall of Fame trainer MacKenzie Miller before establishing his own training career in 1979. Howard achieved significant success, notably winning the Preakness Stakes in 1990 with Summer Squall and training Mineshaft to be named American Horse of the Year in 2003.
