After a car accident in December 1980 left him a high-level tetraplegic, he learned new forms of communication, inspiring the creation of the Neil Squire Society. This organization helps persons with disabilities across Canada. Despite his tragic accident and resulting paralysis, Squire's determination led to innovation in assistive technology, including a communication device developed by his relative, and his work influenced many in the community.
