Neophyte was an influential figure in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, serving as its Patriarch and Bishop of Sofia from 2013 until his death in 2024. Born as Semyon Dimitrov in Sofia, Bulgaria, on October 15, 1945, he completed his religious education at the Sofia Spiritual Academy and studied church singing in Moscow. He was ordained a monk in 1975 and eventually became the rector of the Sofia Spiritual Academy. Elected as Patriarch on February 24, 2013, he played a significant role in the Bulgarian Orthodox community until his passing on March 13, 2024.
