Nevin S. Scrimshaw was a distinguished American food scientist and Institute Professor emeritus at MIT, born on January 20, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He made significant contributions in developing nutritional supplements to combat deficiencies in the developing world. Author of over 20 books and many scholarly articles, he founded several important organizations, including MIT's Department of Nutrition and Food Science. Scrimshaw received the Bolton L. Corson Medal in 1976 and the World Food Prize in 1991. He passed away on February 8, 2013, at the age of 95 in Thornton, New Hampshire.
