She has served as a board member for various organizations, including Standard Chartered Bank and Twitter. On February 15, 2021, she was appointed Director-General of the World Trade Organization, making her the first woman and the first African to hold the position. Okonjo-Iweala previously worked at the World Bank for 25 years, rising to Managing Director, and served twice as Nigeria's Finance Minister, being the first woman to do so in the country.
