Blessed Fray Nicéforo Salvador del Río was born on February 9, 1913, in Villamorco, Palencia. He joined the Apostolic Hospital School in Ciempozuelos in 1927 and became a novice in the Order of Saint John of God in 1930. During the Spanish Civil War, he served as a nurse but was captured and executed on November 30, 1936, at age 23. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 25, 1992, alongside other martyrs from his order.
