He began his career as a jockey and became the British champion amateur flat jockey in 1973. After his father's passing in 1998, he assumed the training license and celebrated his first winner shortly thereafter. His most notable horse, Monet's Garden, achieved multiple victories including the Ascot Chase and Melling Chase. He had a standout day at the Aintree Festival in 2005, training three winners.
